2nd CARAT training on GMP-compliant CAR T cell manufacturing successfully completed

From December 10-14, 2018, Miltenyi Biotec once again hosted the unique CARAT training event on GMP-compliant CAR T cell manufacturing at its headquarters in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany.

After the first successful training of its kind in 2017 this year’s event attracted even more applications from scientists with profound experience in the cell and gene therapy field. Five outstanding scientists from Spain, Poland, France and Korea were granted fellowships by the CARAT consortium.

During the five-day training the attendees got comprehensive insights into practical, regulatory as well as scientific issues of the CAR T cell production. The goal of the training was to enable the trainees to independently perform automated manufacture of cellular products and handle common situations of the TCT process including GMP logistics, monitoring and troubleshooting. Therefore, the course included an introduction into Miltenyi Biotec’s CliniMACS Prodigy® System, the company’s cell separation technology, as well as the T cell transduction (TCT) process and regulatory requirements.

Once again, the CARAT training event was a unique mix of learning, sharing, and networking while providing both conceptual and applied knowledge. Extensive hands-on exercises and open exchange of knowledge helped the attendees to quickly deepen their expertise. Highly experienced trainers were available for assistance and guidance at any time providing participants the opportunity to receive the relevant information for their individual research field and improve their personal learning success.
